Gynecology and obstetrics by women for women

Gynecology and obstetrics by women for women

In Kavango East and West, women do not have access to normal gynecological consultations and examinations. Contraceptives, prevention of infection, cancer smear, etc.as well as guidelines for standardized pregnancy controls are missing.

We want to improve this situation with the training of young doctors and health workers in gynecology and obstetrics.

A story between Mudiro and Gregor Kuonen

Die Familienkellerei Gregor Kuonen, Caveau de SalqThe family winery Gregor Kuonen, Caveau de Salquenen has established itself in the last 40 years with a lot of passion and the highest quality standards to a top address in the Swiss wine industry. In addition to its love for vines and their wines, the Winery Gregor Kuonen has been involved in social projects throughout Switzerland for decades. From an impromptu meeting at a wine exhibition in Bern with Barbara Müller, the idea arose to design a special edition for the Mudiro society. From the proceeds of the sale, the Mudiro society receives CHF 2.00 per bottle sold. In 2019, we were able to credit a large amount for the further development of our program. Small steps towards an improved future in the north of Namibia

Small steps towards an improved future in the north of Namibia

Erwin Küffer, a consultant at FINIM AG, travelled to Namibia at the beginning of 2019 to see Mudiro’s training program. The commitment of the field teams to the people of the North touched and impressed him lastingly. Back in Switzerland, he initiated the cooperation of FINIM AG and Mudiro. Both have decided to enter into an insurance partnership. The insurance cover for the field teams is audited by FINIM AG, if necessary supplemented. The services of the insurance partner are open to all interested parties. The partnership compensates all mandates with the note ‘Mudiro’ with an agreed percentage to the club Mudiro. If you need to review your insurance dossier, support the Mudiro program. Heartfelt Merci.

Anastacia “Crocodile Woman”

Anastacia “Crocodile Woman”

As a 12-year-old girl, Anastacia barely survives a crocodile attack. She loses her left arm, the bone of the right upper arm is completely crushed. Anastacia is fighting for her life in Rundu hospital for weeks. Today she is 17 years old and lives with mother, grandmother and two younger sisters in a small mud hut near Omega. She is almost entirely dependent on the help of the family. She no longer goes to school, she doesn’t have the money for the school uniform and she finds it difficult to write because of her disability.

Meyu – Water

Meyu – Water

In Thimbukushu, Meyu means “the water”. A vital and rare element in the north of Namibia, depending on the season.

It is not only the case that the residents of the Kavango sometimes must walk for miles and hours to the water – no, the river also brings dangers.

On the one hand, the water directly from the river is contaminated with germs, which leads to severe diarrhea and infections in humans. This is a major problem for children in particular, as their mostly malnourished and dehydrated bodies are not able to cope with this burden. On the other hand, there is a danger from the wild animals by being on the river. While women are attacked more by crocodiles and often fatally injured while fetching water for the family or cleaning laundry, men are attacked more by hippos (nil horses) while fishing.

With the project “Meyu” we help on the one hand with health promotion, on the other hand, we try to promote and support the villagers through the work hand in hand on the social level.

The Meyu Project also focuses on “helping people to help themselves”. We work as project planners and coordinators. However, the work is carried out hand in hand by the villagers. Together with the people in charge of the village, we plan to install the water pipes. The villagers then together shovel the necessary path for the pipes from the river to the village, which is hard work on the dry, hard ground. If the path is cleared according to exact specifications, we all lay the pipes together from the Namibian water supply to the village.

It is a real pleasure to see the villagers opening their water connections with a feast. It is desirable that we can establish the “Meyu” project in the region in the north of Namibia and thus help to improve the quality of life.
