Mobile Clinic Mudiro

With the Mobile Clinic, Mudiro strengthens and supports basic medical care in the surrounding communities.

Since there are too many unemployed and poor people in the north of Namibia, they not only lack transport options, but also the money for transport. As a result, people often cannot get to the existing hospitals or “health posts”.

There is also a lack of ambulance vehicles, let alone the state owns any with a 4×4 drive. Arriving late or not at all at the respective hospitals naturally has devastating consequences such as:

People have a very difficult course of disease because they do not come to the hospitals in larger villages or cities at an early stage of illness or injury.
Pregnant women sometimes walk very long distances to the clinic to give birth.
Many people die from their injuries on the way.
Children are born somewhere along the way without medical assistance.
These are just a few examples of what people are struggling with.

Help that remains in the land of contrasts

Help that remains in the land of contrasts

The most spectacular sunsets, the most diverse breathtaking landscapes, the most fantastic biodiversity, the largest expanse, the kindest people, the most beautiful children’s laughter, the greatest freedom, all this is Namibia. But also the greatest corruption, the greatest injustices, the greatest poverty, the greatest hunger, and the greatest thirst, the most deficient education system, that too is Namibia. A country of contrasts, as I was to learn.

Namibia is full of surprises, and you never know what surprises it has in store for you and when. What I do know is that encounters between people and animals as well as sunsets with goosebumps effect are always part of it. One waits in vain for boredom. My second autumn trip to Namibia was also exciting. The changes that have taken place through Mudiro, with a lot of heart and work, are very noticeable.

Finally, my big wish came true, I landed in Africa, in Namibia! Although I had always traveled a lot with my family and had already done a three-year mission in Papua New Guinea, I had never been to Africa before.

In Rundu Herman picked me up, so I could enjoy the two-hour drive to Andara in the car and let the landscape work on me and already got many inputs about the country and people from him. Herman is the project coordinator of Mudiro and steered the car skillfully and with experience next to herds of cows, goats, stray dogs and people who were on the road.

After my first medical mission with Mudiro in Grootfontein in 2021, I was happy to travel to Namibia again and to get to know the people and their everyday life in the northern Kavango region in Andara.

Before the mission, I first traveled with my husband Andreas for a few days to Hakos Astrofarm, 185 kilometers southwest of Windhoek. As soon as we left the tarred road behind us, a familiar feeling of coming home to Namibia set in. We enjoyed the drive through the savannah landscape and the emerging mountains.

For a long time I longed for my assignment in Namibia. Already in 2019, when my boss Dr. Franziska Maurer returned from Namibia for the first time, I expressed my wish to be part of the next mission. Unfortunately, Corona came then and everything has been delayed a bit. But now in August/September 2022 I was allowed to be at the start. The anticipation was great and so are the impressions and memories gained!

Ruedi Runs

Ruedi Runs

But this was not all from the beautiful Solothurn. Maybe you have heard of “Ruedi Rennt”, it is about Mr. Ruedi Frehner known under the name “Ruedi Rennt” he is on the road on a charity tour. He runs a half marathon 26 times – every day in a different canton of Switzerland. He is always accompanied by an ambassador of the respective canton in which he is running. He was supported in Solothurn by the president of the Feldbrunn community Anita Panzer and the president of the Rotary Club Solothurn Jacqueline Wolf.

The complete donations, which were collected in Solothurn during the run, were donated to our project Mudiro. We are always touched by how much support we get from all over the world, in X different ways again and again.
