The story of Barbara and Mudiro
On one of the many trips to Africa Barbara Müller, the project initiator’s daughter Laura fell seriously ill in the north of Namibia in 2013. Laura was cared for at the Bush Hospital in Andara. Barbara Müller got to know the suboptimal health system first-hand. What particularly impressed them during this crisis was the warmhearted willingness of the hospital personnel to help, and how they take care of the patients. Her daughter was able to leave the hospital healthy.
To Barbara Müller it became clear that she wants to and must help here. In 2014 she founded the society Mudiro with a charitable aim. Mudiro means “Fire” in Thimbukushu. It symbolizes Mudiro’s commitment to the people of Namibia.
Barbara Müller has been working with Mudiro in the north of Namibia for almost 10 years. During this time, Mudiro has developed and expanded access to excellent healthcare education for the local village populations (the communities), the Ministry of Health, other hospitals in the region and the University of Namibia (UNAM) with the help of Swiss medical volunteers.
As part of the development of Mudiro, Barbara Müller has lived and worked as the project manager permanently in the field of operation since 2019.
